SUMMARY:Chieftain Blanketing Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Tsawwassen First Nation will be honouring Chief Ken Baird with a Chieftain Blanketing Ceremony on Thursday April 7th\, 2022. TFN will also be honouring members of Executive Council and Legislature with commercialized versions of his blanket. \nUnfortunately\, because we are still living in unprecedented times and to protect those that are immunocompromised\, we ask that this remain a small ceremony with those being blanketed and cultural workers in attendance only. \nThe ceremony will be livestreamed\, as per the Chief’s wishes\, so that Tsawwassen Members and community are able to witness this important ceremony. The video of the ceremony is available on our Livestream page (https://livestream.com/tfn/blanket-2022) \n \n

SUMMARY:Site 4 Facilities Planning - Adults and Youth
DESCRIPTION:Light refreshments will be provided\, along with surveys\, games\, and fun cultural activities! Please ensure you dress warmly as this event is outdoors.  All COVID protocols will be followed.  \nTFN’s Member and non-Member population is growing\, and a Comprehensive Facilities Plan is crucial to adequately address\, guide\, design and build major facilities on TFN Lands. Since 2019\, the Executive Council has been the driving force to have a comprehensive planning approach to all the much-needed facilities on TFN Lands. \nSite 4 Facilities Planning\nLands staff have formed an inter-departmental working team to work with the Consultant\, Beringia Community Planning Inc. who will be engaging TFN Members to learn what you would like to see on Site 4 (near the Beachfront Member’s park). Site 4 is located in our Foreshore Area of our Southern Neighbourhood Plan\, immediately south and east of Highway 17. Key features of this site include: \n\nOwned by TFN\nAccess to the foreshore\nBacked by an ecological reserve\n\nAs we continue our Facilities Planning work\, we want to pay special attention to Site 4 and how we want to use and respect our language and culture. This planning process will include Elders\, Youth\, and Families to share and engage community members on the values\, stories\, program needs and design preferences that should inform the development of Cultural Facilities on Site 4. \nThis community process will explore: \n\nThe cultural and historical relationship to the site\nCurrent uses and experiences of the site\nImportant values related to the site such as protection\, access to and use of the foreshore\nThe relationship between public and private uses for TFN members\nCommunity needs and vision with regards to cultural uses of the space and place\nCommunity priorities for future cultural programming and activities
