Sunday June 21st is National Indigenous People’s Day. This is an important day for TFN, and for Indigenous peoples across Canada. Although we aren’t able to hold a community celebration this year, you can still celebrate virtually! Here are some ideas:
- Check out virtual festivals such as the Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival
- Watch a film – the National Film Board has an online catalogue of free movies made by/about Indigenous people
- Get your dance on with music from Indigenous artists – CBC Music’s Indigenous Canada playlist is a great place to start
- Listen to a podcast from an Indigenous creator, such as Red Man Laughing created and hosted by Anishnaabe comedian Ryan McMahon
- Read a book by an Indigenous author from the #IndigenousReads reading list, and join the conversation on social media
- Visit a virtual museum exhibit like this one from the Canadian Museum of Human Rights on the Witness Blanket
However you choose to celebrate, we hope you are staying safe and healthy this year, and we look forward to the time when we can come together to celebrate again!
