We woul
d like to express our thanks to the Creator for this day and for all the accomplishments we have shared as a community over the course of this year. Throughout 2023, the Tsawwassen People have continued to come together in the face of loss and challenges, as well as in celebration of successes and progress for our Members, as a community and as a government.
This year was filled with many highlights and opportunities to come together as a community and with our Treaty partners. On April 3rd, we celebrated our 14th annual Treaty Day, where we were joined by BC’s Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, the Honourable Murray Rankin. We also came together in remembrance to honour those who have been taken from us too soon. The walks for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation are just two examples of how our people continue to shine despite difficult circumstances.
Our community continues to grow, and we can see this growth in the initiatives we have accomplished and our commitment to concluding those that are in-progress. We proudly completed the development of the 36-Unit Townhome units in November that offers current and future generations a safe home right on Tsawwassen Lands. It has been such a pleasure to welcome so many families back to their community where they can continue to live proudly as Tsawwassen People. We’ve also began work on the development of the TFN Cultural Hub to provide an all-inclusive learning space and new home for Tsawwassen artwork and cultural displays.
As our Nation, our government and our community continue to grow, we have welcomed many new staff and residents to Tsawwassen Lands. We are also so grateful to have had the pleasure to gather with Members living in both Washington and the Okanagan regions. We look forward to seeing where 2024 takes us and for many more opportunities to come together.
To our Tsawwassen Government staff – we appreciate your continued service to the community. To all the residents of Tsawwassen Lands – we welcome you and look forward to you making Tsawwassen Lands your home. To the Tsawwassen People – we celebrate your strength and resilience, your support and love for the community and each other. We have faced many challenges, and we will continue to grow and thrive as we always have, together.
Wishing you all a very safe, warm and happy holidays
