Statement from Tsawwassen First Nation on K’ómoks Treaty Act passing in the B.C. Legislature

Tsawwassen First Nation extends our congratulations to K’ómoks First Nation on the milestone of the K’ómoks Treaty Act passing in the B.C. Legislature.

This achievement represents years of work, dialogue, and commitment by K’ómoks leadership and community members. Advancing along the treaty path is never simple, and each Nation must make decisions based on its own priorities, values, and vision for the future. We recognize that perspectives on treaty-making can differ, both within and among First Nations, and we respect that every community has the inherent right to determine what is best for its people.

TFN understands firsthand the complexities of the treaty process. Our own journey to ratification involved important conversations and challenges, and we stand in solidarity with K’ómoks as they continue along their path.

We also acknowledge the Province of British Columbia for continuing to advance treaty-making efforts. While the process has faced difficulties in recent years, treaties provide a blueprint for reconciliation and support First Nations in achieving self-determination.

Tsawwassen First Nation wishes K’ómoks continued strength and success as they move forward.
