First and foremost, we hope this message finds you safe and well.
The Tsawwassen First Nation Executive Council is taking the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously and wishes to apprise you of recent developments and our actions to-date during this crisis
Administration Building
The Administration building at 1926 Tsawwassen Drive is closed. Most staff are working from home. During office hours (8:30am-4:30pm), please call 604-329-6215 to be directed to the appropriate staff person. You can also contact the front desk by e-mailing info@tsawwassenfirstnation.com.
Service Delivery
All essential services remain available to residents. Please direct any inquiries regarding urgent service issues to info@tsawwassenfirstnation.com and they will be routed to the appropriate staff. You may also reach out directly to staff via the directory on our website (www.tsawwassenfirstnation.com).
Tax Payments
TFN does not have the authority to unilaterally defer property tax payments. Executive Council is working with other Metro Vancouver members on advocating to the provincial government for an expansion of the existing Residential Tax Deferment Program.
Local Traffic Only
Effective March 26, 2020, Executive Council directed that only people who live and work on residential Tsawwassen Lands (see the yellow area on the map below) will have access, with the sole exception of temporary access for services and deliveries.
Pedestrian Priority
Executive Council wants to encourage residents to stay active and healthy while still practicing safe physical distancing measures established by the Provincial Government (2 metres/6 feet). As such, while the COVID-19 Safety Plan is in place, pedestrians will now be given priority access on all residential Tsawwassen Lands to ensure they’re able to practice safe physical distancing. This means that pedestrians may occupy the roadways.
Member Community Housing Area
Indigenous populations have historically been disproportionately impacted during pandemics. As such, in recognition of the increased vulnerability of Tsawwassen First Nation Members, all residents who live outside of the Tsawwassen Member Community Housing Area (see the blue area on the map below) are requested not to access the Member Community Housing Area at this time.
Parks and Open Spaces Closure
Effective March 22, 2020, Executive Council directed the closure of the below congregational pinch points:
- Osprey Park playground
- TFN Boardwalk access points
- TFN Recreational Centre playground
- TFN Sports Field playground and recreational apparatus
- Falcon Way playground
Executive Council will be monitoring the situation over the next few days. If necessary, a more extensive Parks and Open Spaces closure will be implemented.
Tsawwassen Regulatory Compliance and Enforcement Officers
As per the Minister of Public Safety’s Order on March 26, 2020, Tsawwassen enforcement officers are required to assist with public health orders by monitoring, providing warnings, and providing health officers about information of respect of potential contraventions. Enforcement officers may not detain or issue fines and penalties.
Shelter in Place
Executive Council is encouraging everyone to “shelter in place”. This means:
- Please stay in your homes and avoid contact with other people.
- If leaving the house for exercise, please go to areas that allow for minimal contact with others.
- Do not touch or use areas that have been used by others.
- Wash your hands regularly and use gloves and hand sanitizer outside the home.
- Please limit shopping to the essentials and buy enough to limit needing to go frequently.
Please keep yourselves and others safe. We are all in this together.
