Site 4 Facilities Planning – Adults and Youth

October 20, 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Light refreshments will be provided, along with surveys, games, and fun cultural activities! Please ensure you dress warmly as this event is outdoors.  All COVID protocols will be followed.

TFN’s Member and non-Member population is growing, and a Comprehensive Facilities Plan is crucial to adequately address, guide, design and build major facilities on TFN Lands. Since 2019, the Executive Council has been the driving force to have a comprehensive planning approach to all the much-needed facilities on TFN Lands.

Site 4 Facilities Planning

Lands staff have formed an inter-departmental working team to work with the Consultant, Beringia Community Planning Inc. who will be engaging TFN Members to learn what you would like to see on Site 4 (near the Beachfront Member’s park). Site 4 is located in our Foreshore Area of our Southern Neighbourhood Plan, immediately south and east of Highway 17. Key features of this site include:

  • Owned by TFN
  • Access to the foreshore
  • Backed by an ecological reserve

As we continue our Facilities Planning work, we want to pay special attention to Site 4 and how we want to use and respect our language and culture. This planning process will include Elders, Youth, and Families to share and engage community members on the values, stories, program needs and design preferences that should inform the development of Cultural Facilities on Site 4.

This community process will explore:

  • The cultural and historical relationship to the site
  • Current uses and experiences of the site
  • Important values related to the site such as protection, access to and use of the foreshore
  • The relationship between public and private uses for TFN members
  • Community needs and vision with regards to cultural uses of the space and place
  • Community priorities for future cultural programming and activities
