Please be advised that an exclusion zone will be established around the Ocean Group tug basin (formerly Seaspan) starting at 4:30 on Wednesday, March 19th, and will be in effect for at least 24 hours. This is due to a remediation operation involving a hazardous material leak.
We understand that some TFN fishing and crabbing vessels may occasionally tie up at the old Seaspan slips or deploy crab traps behind the 3rd berth. Please be aware that this area will be off-limits during the exclusion period.
Key Details:
- Start Time: 4:30, March 19th
- Duration: Minimum 24 hours
- Exclusion Zone: Starting at 50 meters and expanding to 300 meters once container doors are opened
- Location: Ocean Group Tug Basin
- Reason: Leak of hazardous material (UN 1164 Dimethyl Sulphide)
- Safety Concerns: This substance is dangerous to life and health when in close proximity, and has a strong odor. Quantum Murray will be conducting the remediation.
- All vessels are being asked to depart their berths at Deltaport. (In case any TFN vessels are tied up there.)
Important Notes:
- No vessels or personnel (other than those involved in the operation) are allowed within the exclusion zone.
- Personnel handling the containers will wear protective gear, including SCBA and bunker gear.
- Continuous air monitoring will ensure safety, with stop-work orders issued if necessary.
- Berth 1 will be available for staging tugboats.
- Delta Fire may be present on-site.
Please ensure that all fishing and crabbing activities are avoided in this area during the exclusion period.
