TFN will be undertaking a project to implement new parking restrictions in a number of residential areas on Tsawwassen Lands, by installing new parking signage. Installation work is scheduled to begin on September 3rd, with an anticipated completion date of October 1st. TFN has retained Astrographic Industries Ltd. to install the signage. There may be some minor traffic disruptions to conduct this work – we greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience while we undertake this project. FAQ
Why are the new signs being installed?
In May of 2021, TFN’s Executive Council approved an overall plan for the use of parking signage on Tsawwassen Lands to:
- Discourage spillover of parking from high density developments and ferry passengers;
- Ensure local streets maintain two-way traffic;
- Prioritize TFN’s on-street parking spaces adjacent to apartment entries for:
- emergency vehicle access (fire, rescue, ambulance, police),
- short-term parking zone for passenger pick-up/drop off and small parcel delivery,
- permit garbage pick-up in the short-term parking zone with 1 or 2 times per week window for pick up as determined to the Director of Lands satisfaction,
- a loading zone for vehicles including large trucks and vans.
At that time, TFN staff consulted with the Leaseholder Consultation Committee (now the Leasehold Residents Advisory Committee) and other stakeholders about the proposed parking restrictions in specific areas. On January 27th, 2022, a detailed plan was approved for the installation of parking restriction signage in these areas. TFN staff are now in the process of implementing the parking signage based on the approved plan.
What restrictions are being implemented?
There are two types of parking restrictions that will take effect once the signs are in place:
- Some streets will have parking restricted to a maximum of 4 hours (Monday to Friday between 9 AM and 5 PM) – this is intended to help address the issue of spillover parking.
- Some streets will change to ‘No Parking’ on the sides of streets without parking bays – this is to improve the flow of two-way traffic on smaller side streets, to help address issues with visibility, and to improve access for larger vehicles such as garbage removal and emergency vehicles.
- Note that there will also be some custom signage adjacent to apartment buildings that provide exceptions for:
- emergency vehicle access (fire, rescue, ambulance, police),
- passenger pick-up/drop off and small parcel delivery,
- garbage pick-up, and
- a loading zone for vehicles including large trucks and vans.
How will the new restrictions be enforced?
Once the new signage has been installed, TFN’s Compliance and Enforcement team will continue to operate on a complaint-based system for parking enforcement. Please continue to reach out to our Compliance and Enforcement team directly should you observe vehicles parked on your neighbourhood for extended periods and/or in contravention of the posted parking restrictions. Their contact numbers and hours of operation can be found here on TFN’s website: Compliance and Enforcement.
