Photos: TFN at National Aboriginal Veterans Day in Vancouver

TFN took part in the commemoration of Aboriginal Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 8, in downtown Vancouver. TFN joined numerous other Nations and indigenous organizations and individuals in showing support for those indigenous men and women who have been involved in Canadian wars or served in the Canadian military throughout its history.

As noted by several speakers at the event, indigenous people served their country proudly, even during times when the country did not serve them back, experiencing ongoing racism and discrimination and a lack of respect from Canadians. Events like this remind the country of the great contributions made by these men and women.

Attending for TFN was Legislators Terri Splockton and Maryanne Adams, along with Darryl Splockton Jr., his wife Serena Peters and their son Darryl Splockton III. Maryanne was the flag-bearer for TFN and marched near the front of the parade from the Carnegie Centre at Main and Hastings to Victory Square. Darryl Splockton III carried the TFN wreath and laid it at the cenotaph. AFROG Supervisor Rebel-lynne Cheena made the beaded poppies which TFN participants wore.

TFN’s presence was well received by all participants during this event. Here are some select photos:
