Strength in Collaboration: Operational Leaders of the Alliance of BC Modern Treaty Nations Meet for the First Time

Last week marked a powerful and practical step forward for the Alliance of BC Modern Treaty Nations, as Chief Administrative Officers and Administrators from across our member Nations met together, for the very first time.

While our political leadership often comes together to guide the vision of the Alliance, this meeting was rooted in operations: the day-to-day realities of governing, implementing Treaty, and responding to the evolving needs of our communities.

And it was nothing short of energizing.

This gathering gave senior staff a chance to connect, share insights, and build a network of support around the unique, and often shared, challenges we face in implementing Modern Treaties. Topics ranged from managing rapid growth and internal change, to recruiting and retaining the right people, building internal capacity, and navigating the complexities of how our governments function under self-government.

Each of these topics is complex on its own, but what this meeting made clear is that we’re not facing them alone. The room was filled with a shared spirit of collaboration, openness, and mutual support. The willingness to learn from one another, and to challenge ourselves to do better.

This is just the beginning of a valuable network that will help strengthen our Nations in real and tangible ways. When we have a space to ask questions, share resources, and build solutions together, the opportunities become endless.

At the heart of it all is a common belief: that the work of Treaty implementation is never done, and that by continuing to collaborate, share knowledge, and push for what’s possible, we’re building stronger, more resilient Nations for future generations.

We are constantly learning. Constantly improving. And above all, we are stronger together.
