Michael Murphy, TFN’s Manager of Public Works, has been awarded the Victor M. Terry Operator Award for Excellence in the Water and Waste Industry by the BC Water & Waste Association (BCWWA). This prestigious honour recognizes ingenuity and proficiency in facility operations and maintenance, awarded to a current EOCP-certified operator in BC or Yukon who has demonstrated long-standing excellence, leadership, and impact in their field.
Michael’s leadership and consistent pursuit of operational excellence have been instrumental in ensuring safe, reliable water and waste services for the TFN community. His years of service and cumulative achievements reflect his commitment to innovation, resilience, and community well-being, often in ways the public may never see, but always benefit from.
TFN’s advancements in public works are a testament to what’s possible through long-term investment in Nation-building. For many years, TFN, like many First Nations across British Columbia, did not have the infrastructure, staffing, or resources to offer services at this level. Today, our team is not only meeting high standards but helping to define them. In fact, urban municipalities are now looking to TFN as a thought leader in the delivery of efficient, modern infrastructure services.
Michael’s accomplishment reinforces TFN’s position as a forward-thinking, high-performing government in the public works space, a department whose value often goes unnoticed until something goes wrong. But every time a tap runs clean, a toilet flushes, or a road is cleared after a snowfall, it is thanks to the dedication of this exceptional team.
We congratulate Michael on this well-earned recognition and thank our entire Public Works and Utilities team for the essential work they do every single day.
