Tsawwassen First Nation is aware of a targeted chum fishing opportunity that began on October 28, 2026.
TFN was not consulted on this opportunity, which is currently available through an arrangement between the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and Musqueam.
TFN has raised its concerns directly with DFO, including senior leadership. We have emphasized that if chum abundance supports an economic fishing opportunity, TFN should have the opportunity to participate consistent with the priorities established under our Treaty and Fisheries Agreement.
TFN continues to advocate on behalf of its fishers and Members. We are elevating our concerns to senior levels of government, reviewing available options, and working to ensure TFN’s rights and interests are appropriately recognized and respected.
We will provide further updates as information becomes available
