TFN Responds to Chum Opening Cancellation: Advocating for Treaty Rights and Fair Access

TFN Members

We have been advised that DFO is cancelling the chum opening scheduled for today. We are disappointed with this decision, and will raise this with staff in Pacific Region.

We note that fishers from other communities, including Musqueam and Cowichan, will be out on the water. Staff and leadership share your frustration around the lack of clarity around DFO’s decision. TFN will work with DFO in the Pacific Region to ensure that our treaty agreement provides meaningful opportunities to benefit from our shared natural resources, while we also supporting strong conservation measures.

We remain steadfast in our responsibility to protect TFN’s treaty rights and to provide our Members with clear and accurate information as we seek accountability and resolution. Staff will keep you informed as progress is made.
