We are thrilled to announce that Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) has been honoured with the prestigious First Nation Housing Recognition Award at the 2025 First Nations Housing Conference. This award celebrates our community’s outstanding achievements in housing construction, administration, leadership, and planning.
The First Nations Housing Community has been recognizing the successes of various communities since 2004, celebrating their growth and accomplishments in building, policies, training, and other significant achievements. This year, the awards highlighted the theme of sharing successes and recognizing community efforts.
TFN’s commitment to excellence in housing has been a cornerstone of our community’s development. Our innovative approaches to construction, effective housing administration, and strategic leadership and planning have set a benchmark for others to follow. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in our housing initiatives.
While this award is an amazing accomplishment, we acknowledge that there is still work to be done. It is positive to see that TFN is being a leader in the indigenous housing space, as noted by awards such as this. We remain dedicated to continuing our efforts and making further progress in our housing initiatives.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our Executive Council and Housing Advisory Committee whose vision and guidance played a critical role in achieving our housing goals and our sincere gratitude to Steven Stark, Chair of the Housing Advisory Committee, Bertha Williams, Elder and Housing Advisory Committee Member, and Valerie Cross, Executive Councillor for TFN, for their invaluable contributions and leadership.
We would also like to acknowledge the tireless efforts of our Housing team -Priyanka Roy, Rajan Sandhu and Ghazaleh Akbarnejad in furthering TFN’s housing journey.
Finally, we congratulate the other award recipients: Daylu Dena Council, Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board, Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek, and One Bowl Housing Corporation.
