In a significant step forward for our governance, a new Election Act Resolution was introduced. The Legislature agreed to refer this resolution to the Advisory Council for further review, ensuring it meets the community’s needs for a fair and transparent electoral process.
The Legislature also enacted Bill 003-2024, amending the Property Taxation Act to provide TFN with tools for better management of property taxation on Tsawwassen Lands.
Legislators conducted the Second Reading of Bill 004-2024, which amends the Membership Act to remove the prohibition against dual membership with foreign Indigenous entities. This reading sparked productive discussion, with legislators sharing diverse perspectives on the bill.
Additionally, a resolution to enact a new Election Act in 2025 was introduced and referred to the Advisory Council for their review and input. Legislators will hear reports and a presentation on this resolution next week.
